If your car won’t crank at all, or the dashboard lights dim and the engine dies while you’re driving, the problem is often the starter or the alternator rather than the battery. We come to where your vehicle is, so the car can often be fixed where it sits instead of towed to a shop.
If you’re stopped in traffic or on a freeway shoulder, call 911 first. They can get you protected faster than we can.
We do not tow. If the car needs a shop, we’ll tell you.
How to tell which one it is
- Starter: you turn the key and hear a single click, or nothing at all, but the lights and radio still work normally.
- Alternator: the car starts fine, then dies while you’re driving, or the battery light comes on and the headlights go dim.
- Battery: the car is dead after sitting, a jump start brings it back, and it keeps running normally afterwards. If it dies again soon after the jump, that points at the alternator.
If you’re not sure which it is, that’s normal. Tell us what the car is doing when you call and we’ll work out what it needs.
What we do on site
- Check whether the fault is the starter, the alternator or the battery before anything is replaced
- Replace the part at your location when the job and the parts allow it
- Start the car and check it before we leave
- Tell you straight if the job needs a shop instead of a roadside repair
If it turns out to be the battery, we handle that too. See battery service and battery replacement.
