Before you call, check these four things
Most lockouts have a faster answer than a service call, and it costs you nothing to rule them out. One: try every door, the tailgate and the trunk release — on plenty of vehicles the driver’s door locks while another opening does not. Two: if a spare key exists and somebody can bring it, that is usually quicker than anything else. Three: check your phone. Many vehicles built in the last several years unlock from the manufacturer’s app, and some brands run that service free for an initial period after purchase. Four: check whether a lockout benefit already comes with your auto insurance or a credit card you carry. If none of those apply and the keys are sitting on the seat, that is when to call us. One thing worth skipping: coat hangers and wedges. Modern doors run wiring, sensors and airbag hardware directly behind the panel where the tool goes. And if the key is lost or broken rather than shut inside the car, tell us on the call — that is a different job than a lockout.
